Curator’s Statement: I am a painter and a Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey for almost 40 years. During that time, I taught a variety of studio and art history courses and founded and served as Director of the Rider University Art Gallery and started the Rider University Art Collection. As Director of the Art Gallery, I was responsible for selecting, organizing, mounting, and developing exhibitions and exhibition catalogs. The catalogues featured images of artwork presented on exhibition along with an artists biography and an artists interview. Many of the interviews were conducted by me. For the University’s Art Collection, I was responsible for selecting and when possible, mounting artwork collected throughout the buildings of the University. Over the course of my tenure as Director, the reputation of the Gallery grew, becoming recognized as one of the regions’ important exhibition spaces.
old:
Outside of creating my own artwork, I was as a Professor of Fine Arts at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ for nearly 30 years. While there, I served as the art gallery director, where I curated dozens of individual and group exhibitions. For each exhibition, I selected the artists, hung the artworks, held opening receptions, conducted interviews with each artist, and created catalogs containing the artists’ work, biographical materials, as well as my own interviews with the artists. Over the course of my tenure, the Rider University art gallery became a beacon for art in New Jersey. It provided a unique experience for faculty and students, the wider University community, and the public at large to gain insight into the visual arts, to connect with working artists, and to experience the creative process firsthand. To many, it was a valuable experience on many levels— artistic, cultural, and academic.
Below, I have posted a small collection of these catalogs in an attempt to provide access to a meaningful historical and artistic resource as well as to help preserve the legacy of the Rider University art gallery.
